Mel Tucker is the Bears new defensive coordinator. The previous defensive coordinator was obviously amazing. The Bears defense sometimes almost single-handedly won football games for the Bears last year, and has consistently been in the top. Here’s some info on the new guy:
He has spent the last five seasons as a defensive coordinator with the Cleveland Browns (2008) and Jacksonville Jaguars (2009-2012). In 2011, after just two seasons as the defensive coordinator with the Jaguars, his defense allowed just over 20 points per game, good enough for 11th in the NFL.
“Before becoming the defensive coordinator in Cleveland, Trucker was the defensive backs coach, an area where the Browns excelled under Tucker. During that time, the team ranked 5th in the NFL with 73 interceptions and had the 7th overall pass defense in the entire league. As defensive coordinator in 2008, Tucker helped the Browns get 31 takeaways that season, good enough for third in the league. 24 of those 31 takeaways were interceptions.”
