New Bears head …

New Bears head coach Marc Trestman has retained two position coaches from Lovie Smith’s staff in Jon Hoke (defensive backs) and Mike Phair (defensive line).

I think this is interesting.  Both of those coaches are great coaches.  I was afraid they were cleaning house and would not retain any coaches from last year.  That would’ve been a complete mistake.  Maybe Trestman does know what he’s doing.

“DA BEARS” have hired 2 new coaches

Trestman hires Matt Cavanaugh as the quarterbacks coach.  15 years ago he was actually the offensive coordinator for the Bears for a couple of years.  He was with the Jets last year.  Too bad the Jets had a terrible quarterback.  I hope it’s not the coach that was the problem.  Actually, I don’t think it is Cavanaugh was the offensive coordiantor for the Ravens in 2004, when they won the super bowl.  He’s got some skills.

He also hires Skip Peete as the Running Backs coach.  Peete spent the last 15 years with the Raiders and the Cowboys.  I don’t like anything that comes from the Cowboys to the Bears, personally.  It worked out terribly with Sam Hurd, and a certain wide receiver, whose name I won’t even mention.  Peete worked with Kromer in Oakland.

Who’s Mel Tucker?

Mel Tucker is the Bears new defensive coordinator.  The previous defensive coordinator was obviously amazing.  The Bears defense sometimes almost single-handedly won football games for the Bears last year, and has consistently been in the top.  Here’s some info on the new guy:

He has spent the last five seasons as a defensive coordinator with the Cleveland Browns (2008) and Jacksonville Jaguars (2009-2012). In 2011, after just two seasons as the defensive coordinator with the Jaguars, his defense allowed just over 20 points per game, good enough for 11th in the NFL.

“Before becoming the defensive coordinator in Cleveland, Trucker was the defensive backs coach, an area where the Browns excelled under Tucker. During that time, the team ranked 5th in the NFL with 73 interceptions and had the 7th overall pass defense in the entire league. As defensive coordinator in 2008, Tucker helped the Browns get 31 takeaways that season, good enough for third in the league. 24 of those 31 takeaways were interceptions.”

The Bears Hire DeCamillis As Special Teams Coach

The DeCamillis is a good coach, but letting go of Dave Toub could be a big mistake.  Our special teams unit has been one of the best in the NFL the entire time Toub was the coach.  Our punter and kicker are two of the best in the league.  Devin Hester will probably be a hall of famer because of Toub.  This could definitely come back to haunt the Bears.Image

Ex-Super Bowl Winner, Steve Young Gives the New Bears Coach A Shoutout

NFL legends, Steve Young and Jerry Rice, both said that the Bears made a great decision by hiring Trestman.  Jerry Rice is considered the greatest wide receiver of all time.  Steve Young is now calls the Monday night games on ESPN.  Trestman was their offensive coordinator when they won the super bowl together.  Check out the story here on ESPN.com.
